      Hi Folks,

ours is a ’39 Normale:  the original rubber seals around where the wiper threaded spindles come through the bodywork above the windscreen have perished.

Has anyone found either a source of original pattern parts or a good alternative please

        Steve,

I have never seen a detail illustration of the overhead wiper system in any parts catalogue but my French parts book for the 15-6 does have a brief list of items for the pre-’52 wipers.  One of those is part number 721081 described as “protecteur caoutchouc d’étanchéité sur support d’axe de balai” which I reckon translates as “protective rubber seal on wiper blade shaft support”.

That same part number also appears on the illustration of the later (lower) wiper system with the same part description.  If you think that might be the right part CTA have it in their catalogue, their reference is 6680011.

I changed these things on my 1951 car a few years back – can’t quite recall where I got them or what the part numbers were – but I’m pretty sure the CTA part is 6680045 – WIPER SPINDLE RUBBER OUTSIDE. The picture looks right. You might also need the CHROME CUP WIPER SPINDLE OUTSIDE – 680049 which sit on top and brighten things up.

The job is well worth doing – it stopped my leaks. When you put it back together be careful that the whole assembly is central (there’s some float in the bushes) – otherwise your wiper sweep will be asymmetric which, unless you decide to bend the wiper arms, could mean you wipers hit the frame. This can lead to your wiper flying off into the bushes on a dark wet night never to be found again. Apparently.

I’ve just replaced mine – They are available seperately or as a kit from Renel in France. Just scroll through and you should recognise them. Big plus with Renel is that you can pay via Paypal.
