Hi I am looking at replacing my 6 volt battery, unfortunately there are no markings on the old battery. I have a 1953 Light 15 with a 1900cc engine. I am aware I am limited with size (height) but not sure what Amp Hour to buy and what is a medium priced make. Thanks carl

A Light 15 is 12 volts. Buy whatever will fit.

As Larry says, should be 12v if a Light 15. A comparable French Legere would be 6v (if not converted to 12).

I have an Exide EA654 in my 12v conversion Legere which is 232 (L) x 173 (W) x 225mm (H) and it’s about the biggest that will fit in the battery box and the best CCA (cold cranking amps) to help spin the starter that I could find.

I just braved the weather to look under my bonnet  – IMG_6394

The Halfords HB072 which fills the space in my 12V Normale – 68Ah, 550 cold crank amps.

            Dimensions (LxDxH): 261x175x220mm.

It does the job – so far…

            (sorry about the untidy wiring)

Interesting Chris, but the Exide is pretty much the same capacity but £30 cheaper delivered to the door https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/exide/ea654/

Oh and it seems you have the same 12v to 6v reducer fitted (mines for the wiper motor only)

Good point David – Halfords is not a place to find a good deal on anything.

I run the wipers and the fuel gauge off the 6V converter – but I believe the fuel gauge would work on 12V too – not that mine works very often. The converter works very well – something like £20 from Hong Kong on ebay if I remember correctly.
