Hi folks, I’m using the spares manual to put this together, but it’s sketchy when it comes to radiator and horn mounting.

I guess the radiator sits on rubber bushings & is held in place by it’s own weight or nuts?

And the horns, are there spacers between the gearbox an horn bracket?

      Thanks!802XUD_Lo_Res58802XUD_Lo_Res57802XUD_Lo_Res56

Your horns are different to mine Norman but on mine the support bracket does sit directly on top of the gearbox and goes across both bolts. It’s basically a piece of angle iron with the horizontal face bolted down to the gearbox and the horns are bolted to the vertical face pointing forward.

BTW can I suggest that you source a Gates NM ‘notched’ fan belt as given the size of the small pulley your standard belt is likely to crack within a couple of  thousand kilometres like mine did. The notched belt will run around the small pulley far easier with less stress on it as it’s far more flexible.

David, thanks for the advice. Will get a notched fanbelt. Paradoxically, the belt came from the club spares. Perhaps they should know that there are better belts out there?

Your angle iron may be better than the bracket I have. If I bolt it straight down onto the gearbox, it will most likely bend! Meantime, I’ll look for some suitable spacers.

Waiting for the radiator to come back from Aaron Radiator Company. The cheeky devils tout themselves as the last word in classic radiator overhaul. Guess what? They simply ship the radiator out to a third party. Could be ‘Bob the Bodge’ for all I know! With hindsight, I could have got a new one from Franssen for less. Tuition fees!

            Norman,

Rad fixing – there should be two captured M10 screws attached to the base of the rad.  These fit into holes in the cross member with a rubber washer (329600) and a cup (329610) on each screw , between the rad and the cross member.

The assembly is then secured with a large flat washer, spring washer and M10 nut on each screw, below the cross member.

The horn bracket attaches to two elongated cover studs in the top of the gearbox with spacers (703203) between the gearbox lid and the bracket.

In general the spare parts catalogue is a far better reference source for seeing what goes where.  If you don’t have your own copy, it can be downloaded in pdf format from the Technical Library in the Members Only section of the website.

Thanks Bernie, just what I need.

              On the the next phase…..

Still can’t believe it started first time. That 123 setup (with a bit of advice) was a synch.

You have raised an interesting point on horn mounting as looking in all the parts books nothing is shown for actually doing it Norman. Sometimes you see cars with the horns mounted externally on the bumpers, but mainly behind the grill on top of the gearbox.

So whilst there is a horn button on the light switch and wiring diagrams show horns, there are no parts for mounting them.

Not sure if you will be able to make this out but clicking the image should enlarge it. The horn support bracket just clears the gearbox cover sitting on studs 703 203 as Bernie says. In this case pushing the bracket forward by around 15mm from the stud centre. The horns in this case simply bolt to the cross bracket.

Found a better image online whilst watching a video Norman which shows the bracket and how it’s mounted so did a screen grab.

                      Thanks David,

I managed to get some suitable 20mm spacers off fleaBay. It fits snugly now.

Just need to find out where the rear silencer bracket goes…
