My L15 is a slough built 1952 The Fuel gauge is the square Jaegar type and has a yellow and a green wire exiting through the casing Can some o e tell me which wire goes where ?
At the moment it is lifeless -how do I test it ?Thanks Chris Smith
Chris,
Check out the wiring diagram in the members area.

Basically, one goes to the sender and the other to the regulator. (12v). Which wire is which is a matter of testing with a voltage applied. Ideally use the sender in the circuit as a potentiometer to see the deflection of the needle. A correct needle movement will indicate which wire is which as per the wiring diagram.

Thanks Alistair Yes I have done that and still no action
Have looked at he 2004 article and will add the earth leads and try again
Chris
Hi Chris,
1. Check the earth to the gauge, it is used for the panel lights and the function of the gauge.
2. Check live feed to the back of gauge, earth the other terminal and the gauge should deflect.
3. If gauge is working, remove wire from tank sender and earth, if needle deflects sender is faulty.
4. If the sender is faulty it will need to be replaced in most cases. You can sometimes repair if it is just a wire off inside, they are very delicate in the coil area and repairs are tricky.
Good luck Philippe
The previous query on fuel gauges may be useful. See “Fuel Gauge ohm Rating”.

Thanks gentlemen I think I have a dead gauge
Off to the auto-instrument fixer!
That’s a shame, as they are expensive to repair.
have you made sure the instrument is earthed?
If you have a multimeter check resistances between Terminals B and T – (60 ohms); then between T and the case (100 ohms). This will tell you if the coils are broken. Check that the needle can be moved by hand (gently). That will tell you if the needle is jammed.
If that is all good, it should work.
Roger
If this is your kind of fuel gauge and you need a replacement let me know. It’s left over from my fuel gauge traumas.
David

Seeing these pictures, for “B terminal” read “Yellow Wire” and for “T terminal” read “Green wire” . i.e yellow to green 60 ohms, Green to case 100 ohms.

The two studs in the slotted holes will allow adjustment of the coils.

Thanks Roger that is the type I have Will retest Fortunately I have 2 gauges and senders so hopefully I will get a live pair ! Chris
If you don’t find a working setup, let me know.
Roger
Success! Thanks to all
Of the 3 senders and two gauges that I had scrounged/collected , I had picked two duds ! ( because they looked the nicest!)
Chris
Good news. One more Traction with a petrol gauge.
