      Hi,

Does anyone know where to buy spring clip locking rings as used in B2 gearboxes? I’ve tried bending returns on ordinary snap rings, but I need some larger diameter clips for the locking rings on my Kegresse track mechanism. The gearbox clips are generally 40mm diameter, but I need 50, 60, and 90mm clips in 2.5mm round spring wire. I can buy the wire OK, but forming and tempering is hit and miss.

      Thanks, Tonyunnamed

        Hi Tony,

You could try Simpson Springs  https://simpsonsprings.co.uk/ They have done pedal return springs, clutch cover plate springs and stainless brake pipe sleeve for me. They do a good job and are resonable price wise.

Hi Philippe and thanks for the link.

I will ask them for a quote. I tried Tested Springs who I have used before but they want £75 for 9 clips. I am surprised that the rings for the B2 gearbox (oil thrower on main shaft clutch extension, release bearing, etc) don’t seem to be in the usual catalogues. Or anywhere for the larger ones since it was a common way to secure lock nuts.

          Cheers, Tony

I would be interested to hear how you get on.

Philippe, sorry not to reply earlier. I have ticked the notification box but it keeps cancelling itself.

Anyway, Simpson’s quoted £25 per clip, and a couple of Continental suppliers lost interest when they saw which vehicle they are for. I’m surprised the clips aren’t still generally manufactured but I suppose Loctite has done for them. And it must be expensive for spring companies to make one offs. I guess it’s lazy of me not to make mandrels and form my own, I would put a bend in off the shelf snap rings but I can’t find the larger ones in 2.5mm wire. Spring wire is £1.50/2m and I found 5 metres of titanium wire for £40…I could sell them as Deco jewellery. Clip art?

              Thanks for your interest, Tony
