Dopey question time. Does one need to remove the bonnet to change the battery?

        David,

I would not want to attempt it without completely removing the bonnet.

I am told it is possible to remove the rear end bonnet fixing and stays and just loosen the front fixing but you will need extra hands to hold the bonnet up at the rear….. and risk damaging the front end of the hinge and/or top of the grille. Definitely not worth the risk in my opinion.

I couldn’t believe this when I first had to change the battery on a Traction but there seems to be no way round this whether Paris or Slough built. Buy a good quality battery and look after it.

          Cheers

            Hi guys

Yes well after looking at it and pondering for a while I came to the conclusion that was the way. Was just hoping I was missing the obvious,

            alas no.

Question time again. Removal of bonnet. Remove front clamp, remove both supporting struts and slide bonnet forward and out?

Also currently the duff battery is an 075 type 175mm tall. I currently have, it just so happens a good spare, for another vehicle,  only 6mths old  which is 190mm high I do not see any obvious problems in fitting this. Has a larger Ah and CCA than current one but as car still has a dynamo I think this does not really matter.

Do not attempt to “dismantle” the leaves from the hinge, remove it as a complete assembly.

Here is a llnk to an earlier post re. the process of removing a bonnet.
