Baffling me.  Last week I put in some Thermocure just as precautionary measure to hopefully improve cooling. Went out for about an hour. Intention was to give it a few more hours running before draining. Naturally when I was planning that the heavens opened, so never happened. Been away until yesterday.

Have just now noticed a pool, quite large,  of what I thought was oil but no turns out to be water coloured by the thermocure.

Am damned if I know where it is coming from but is definitely underneath, and neither of the two drain points, block or rad.

Have dried it up and will keep an eye on it. Is there anything obvious I should look at? Is it okay to leave thermocure in the engine for a week?

I never gave it a second thought that it might cause a leak, if in fact it has.

Looks like I have found the source. Appears to be weeping from bottom of radiator so that will have to come out. Perhaps the thermocure loosened all the gunge in there, and it was the gunge sealing the thing. As if I have not got enough to do!

Radiator out. So before I contact Chris about a replacement is there anything else I should check associated with it.? Would it be worth giving the water opumop a once over?  Hoses look fine but am tempted to change them anyway.

No idea what an opumop is, not even had a drink when I typed that. Water pump needs to come out as top orifice, good word that, looks like a ship’s hull covered in barnacles, and very yellow. Just spent over 2 hours trying to get the waterpump off. Doubt the gaskets were ever going to leak. I will have a drink now, probably more than one.

              Hi David,

According to the description “Thermocure removes rust scale and deposits from radiators, water pumps, water jackets, engine blocks, and heads”. So, anything could happen! It all depends on where deposits are removed from, what they were blocking up before they moved and where they get moved to.

I would imagine that, if you give everything a good flush out with a hose – especially with the water pump out and then run the engine to check for leaks, if it doesn’t leak immediately it will be ok.

Why did you do this – was the engine overheating? Will you cut open the radiator to have a look inside?

I hear people recommend dropping a dishwasher tablet into the cooling system to clean it out. Has anyone tried this?
