Hello everyone, I’m still on the learning curve of Traction ownership, as to engine oil’ do I get mono grade sae 20 as the filler cap suggests and where would  be a good supplier , I have found a westway lubricants sae 20 classic oil on ebay at £24.99 for 5ltr, worth a shot ???? 1952 11BL

      Thanks Ian

I use Castrol XL30. I bought a job lot from Ebay a while ago 4 x 1gallon for £80 though it does seem to have increased by quite a bit now. Heards that the Halfords Classic is not bad.

Be careful, straight grade oils do not contain detergent and sludge builds up in the sump and the internal surfaces of the engine which is normal. If multigrade oils are used which contain detergents then this sludge will go back into circulation which is a problem with the Citroen engine which does not have an oil filter and increased wear will occur.

          Cheers

I have always used the Halfords 20/50 Classic oil and it seems fine. But agree with Richard’s comment re sludge. A well-wisher sent me a magnet to add to my drain plug. It’s amazing how much ferrous stuff it catches but can’t catch the other rubbish. I assume the magnet does most of its work when the engine is stopped – especially when hot and the particles just settle in its direction. Do you know the history of the engine?
