Thanks Dave,
That’s about the life I was expecting 🙂
After rebuild teething problems, I became aware that the dynamo was not sitting square to the engine. Also, the pulley was not in line with the others and I spent a lot of time fiddling to get it right.
I thought that I had succeeded.
The belt had done about 5ooo miles and I became aware of bits of material being shed onto the underside of the bonnet in line with the belt.
I decided that this would be a good time to get some oil on the non-drive end bush – just about impossible in situ – and to give the dynamo and bracket a lick of paint, so removed it all.
I have reset the alignment – obviously I did not get it right the first time because I had to re-arrange the spacers. I quite possibly over tightened it previously and I had problems with a very hot engine in the early days.
I guess that all of these things have conspired to reduce the life so, hopefully this one will last longer. I will keep an eye on it and I always carry a spare – reminder to self – order another one.
My cuts and bruises have just about healed.
