Hi has anybody dismantled the front engine mount with the 2 rubber mounts each side?

I can’t find any information on this type.

      regards

Mark, I suspect it unscrews in a similar manner to the normal big 6. I would try holding it at one end and un-screwing!

          Hi Philippe,

the shaft running through the center can be turned by hand so the outside must unscrew as you say, do you know why my car has this type? It doesn’t seam to fit well and rubs on the gear change rods E0ECD47B-EBDF-41A8-8DB1-6EBB0A0FB74731220B0D-4738-454C-B0C1-8EADEBBB38EE

            Mark,

Like Phil, I’ve not seen one of these before and research in light of your post has not produced anything new either.

I believe you have both a “normal” Big 6 and a hydraulic version and both are post 1950.  Which of the two has this tube fitted?

The spares book for post-1949 vehicles only shows the one (standard) type of front mounting tube.  That, and the fact you say it interferes with the gear change levers suggests to me it might not be original.  Perhaps, with typical Ozzy ingenuity, somebody in the past has had to replace a damaged tube and this is the result of not  being able to find an original part and making something to do the job.

I appreciate none of the above will help you in your quest to dismantle the unit, sorry.

Were I in your shoes, struggling to overhaul this item and unable to find anything suggesting it to be an original fitting, I think I would be sorely tempted to consider replacing it with the standard item.

Hi Bernie,  today everything was revealed and yes my normal B6 has the mount that unscrews and i replaced the rubber on that one no problem but the 6H has it his one with more rubber mounting to make I move luxurious I guess, mine has dropped making the radiator to low anyway to cut a long story short a club member here in Oz has a parts catalogue showing it and it’s simple the rubbish needs to be cut and rapped around. Here’s the pic for anyone else that may come across this.

                Everyday is a school day!

But ….. as we now know this is an original part, I wonder why it fouls the gear mechanism?

The other type is adjustable and the centre bush needs to be set a very specific distance from the gear selector end.  The illustration above does looks if the left end, in this view, may be longer than the right, although I appreciate this is only a drawing.

So, is it actually symmetrical? If not, could it have been fitted the wrong way round, causing it to interfere with the gear selector?

                More questions than answers.  Sorry.

All is well, after replacing the center rubber and turning the outside ones 180 degrees she sits at the correct hight and doesn’t touch the gear rods.

I should probably get the doughnut one out of polyurethane.9F1B59D6-103D-4264-99E1-13915BE28F99F3FD0781-A17C-4CA1-A0DA-C1530C93A6B1
