      I’ve read a few places that the car should only be raised on the jacking points and that the rear axle isn’t strong enough to support the car.  Obviously it’s dangerous to work under a car without axle stands.  Where should they be placed if not under the axle?

      (Sorry, posted this in the 6 cylinder section by accident. I’m asking for an 11BN.)

        The car should not be jacked using a  single point jack in the centre of hhe rear cruciform axle.  There is a drawing for an “adapter” in the manual which will spread the load to prevent damaging the cruciform.

        Axle stands can be placed under the cruciform as close to the wheels as possible. Alrernatively they could go under the larger tubular cross member situated a little further forward but that will entail lifting the car much higher if you want the wheels to be clear of the ground.
