Is this the coolant drain plug on my 1954 Light 15 TA?  Seems a bit low to me, but I can’t see any other option:

I hope the picture uploads when I submit, coz it doesn’t want to so far!

The fuel pump is disconnected as the previous owner fitted the electric pump that’s just visible.

It’s going to be a pig to get undone, because I can’t get a 21mm socket + wrench on it, and don’t have the right size ring spanner.  If it is indeed the drain plug, I’ll have to go shopping!  Thanks.

        Trying again:

Rad is already drained, no problem.

Suggest a ring scanner with minimal offset.

If you are “lucky”, coolant will flow freely.

But if, as tends to be the case, the block is full of sediment, it may only be a trickle – or, worse still no flow at all.

In either of the latter cases, poking about with a wire or drill bit (not easy on a narrow bodied car) may increase the flow but is a sure sign of likely cooling problems.

The sediment tends to set like concrete around the base of the liners which means the engine will almost certainly need to be opened up to allow the block to be thoroughly cleaned out.  It’s a fairly major operation.

Hope this is not so in your case.

If you don’t have a scanner, a spanner will do!!

Bother – I’d just got the scanner all booted up ready…

Thanks for the advice.  She’s off just now having sills replaced, so I’m tractionless for a while.  Cooling system will be duly sorted as soon as she’s back.  Cheers.  Dudley.
