My recently acquired Paris-built 1956 11BN came with only one overtaker mirror on the driver’s side. Fine if you are in France, but dangerous not having a view down the right hand side of the car when driving on busy UK dual carriageways. I did buy a new pair of neat clip-on chrome overtaker mirrors from Holdens Classics, but on fitting, the considerable inward angle of the front doors and the lack of flexibility in the mirror design meant I could not get line of sight down each side of the car. So I returned them.

I have now identified (from another post on the Forum) a pair of door mirrors secured by brackets under the door handles from a French Traction spares supplier (80 Euros a pair), but before I do, would anyone out there have one of these old original clip-on door mirrors kicking around that they would like to sell, or know where I could get one. These have plenty of flexibility to get a good view.

      Many thanks.

The brackets for behind the door handle I got from Renel(in the days when they still shipped to the UK) but the mirrors are cheaply found on eBay. (Look for them under scooter mirrors. This was a tip I got from the big boss Bernie)) as for the flexible clip on mirrors I will have a look. I have a number of French cars from the ‘50s so I’m sure there might be one somewhere. Otherwise, try looking on ‘car builder.com’ as they seem to have a large variety of clip on mirrors.
        Cheers

          Paul/Peter,

For information, Renel do ship to the UK. You need to send them an email with details of what you want to buy, and they will send you a VAT-free invoice. It’s how I bought a couple of mirrors with door handle supports from them last year: https://www.renelauto.fr/. The part number is C100725.

            Peter,

            Member David Selfridge …

            davidselfridge52@icloud.com

… is producing stainless steel door handle mirror brackets.  I have them on my car.

I replaced the clip on type that came with the car and which I found were not only limited in the view afforded but also damaged the paintwork.

Many thanks to all. I had identified the Renel door mirrors with handle brackets at Euro 78.90 the pair plus carriage, but thanks Paul for the scooter mirror tip-off. If I can get a pair of brackets from David Selfridge, then a pair of scooter/bike mirrors almost identical to the Renel ones are as little £10. Do David’s brackets have a 10mm hole to accept the mirror stalks?

                Peter,

Mea culpa … or I am simply going mad!

I bought my mirror brackets from Mike Bigland ……

I have no idea why I thought they came from David and apologise to both you and David for any inconvenience.

Mike’s brackets came with comprehensive fitting instructions and had an 8.5mm hole which can easily be enlarged for a 10mm fixing (I had to enlarge mine).

I bought them about 10 years ago so the price shown on this document may well be out of date now.

Attached is a more recent information sheet from Mike Bigland with updated email address. The brackets are now available with 10.5mm holes.
