Slowly getting round to the next issue with my L15 , the speedometer under reads, and has done so for some time as reported by the previous owner. Is there any adjustments on the gauge to correct this or could it be that in the past the gearbox was changed to a French version and the speedometer gear drive has a different gear ratio for Kilometres.

        <p style=”text-align: left;”>André,

<p style=”text-align: left;”>The standard ratio gearbox is the same for French and English vehicles.

Does the amount of inaccuracy vary with speed or does it always read a fixed amount low?

If the former, I would suspect the cwp has been replaced with a different ratio without changing the speedo drive.

Standard cwp is 9×31 but both 10×31 and 8×31 were available.

More recently 10×31 cwps have been manufactured as a solution to give the car “longer legs”. If the speedo drive is not replaced, the reading is approx 10% low – I know from experience.

On the other hand, if the speedo always reads the same amount too low, the needle simply needs resetting to correct it.
