Some advice please – I have just acquired a 1954 LT15 RHD with lots of jobs. One task will be to fix the boot lock – big boot variety. I have the remains of the old catch [which I gather are very rare] – this is a triangular steel frame containing the brass striker – the spring was missing but I have inserted a replacement but there does not appear any method to retain it in position. I have the chrome handle with lock but it seems that the square shaft from the handle should engage with a squared cam or lever to depress the brass striker. These bit are missing. Ideally a complete replacement is what I need – any ideas where from or could any kind Big Booters send me a few digi shots in close up of the catch and I will set to make up a replacement.
My thanks for any help offered
Colin
I would pull mine out but the car is all ready for our trip to France in the morning for the 80th Anniversary rally but here’s the parts diagram for the lock from my parts catalogue
I’ll keep an eye out at the autojumble and see if I can find one as I could do with a new striker plate anyway
I say what a swift response. many thanks – and also for the parts diagram – its part 83707 that I need and unfortunately the diagram does not expand the inner workings. I certainly be grateful to share the bits if you come across one at a jumble and I will let you know likewise if I strike lucky. Maybe I could beg a few pics when you get back from France .
Have a super trip
Colin
Sorry, no boot catches in the auto jumble I’m afraid. Try Andy Burnet, his number is in Floating Power next to an advert
Thanks very much for trying hope you had a good trip – I will try Andy

I got a new striker from Jose Fransen, it should be here tomorrow. When I change it I’ll take some pics of the lock itself.
OK pictures of the lock itself, not sure if there any help though:
Thanks ever so much for the pictures – I have been away and have only just returned to find them. They are really useful and confirm what I was thinking of trying to do – ie insert a squared flange to the original catch body that I have. The flange was missing when I got the car. I am looking at squared flange section from maybe a Morris 1000 cut to size and then attempting to braze it in place in the catch in line to accept the squared shaft on the lock handle.
I was then thinking of fashioning a rounded cam to push the lock striker down. The part that I have not yet figured[ and cannot really see from the photos] is how the pin is fixed to the squared shaft and why it is sprung. These parts are missing from my lock – any thoughts would be welcome and again many many thanks for the shots and dismantling.
