I bought a “Full” carpet set for my 11B last year.
I unpacked it all this weekend to find the front floor section missing and the piece that goes behind the pedals, drivers side. I called the supplier and he said that the front floor is not supplied as it is not standard and this this should be a rubber mat.
Is this correct – I assume when buying a carpet set it includes the front floor and if you choose to put a rubber mat then that is in addition.
…………
…………..
Looks like I need to buy the front carpet – I must not assume anything in the future. π
I took a look at some other vendors and they sell the kit without the front carpet – http://www.pat2d.com/mag/fr/search_list … tte&page=2
To me, that is not a carpet kit.
Cheers Den for the pointer to the Trimming. I will be on this very soon.
Just out of curiosity , would you use nails again to secure the trim. I don’t want to start hammering new holes into the body if I can help it and I like using scews, they just feel more secure.
…………
Yep that is it – the tacks that go into the rope = I have found some at CAS so will replace that too.
I had quite a few tacks holding on the carpet too and these went into the body, I assume that modern adhesives will take care of that. I printed off the Trimming instructions so will get on with this once I painted the dash and the floor – so everything is super clean.
It all depends on how ‘original’ looking you want to keep the car or how useable….
I went for Range Rover spec (damp resistant and rot proof) black carpet which I fitted myself.
Along the inner valances I used black self tappers (only a few) to keep the carpet located rather than use nails (I must have removed circa 3 – 4 carpet sets worth when tidying up the inside)
The black self tappers are barely noticeable in the black carpet. The floor carpet is just laid in as it can’t really move and as Den says, I came across a rubber front mat for the 11BL on eBay UK for Β£30 which I again just laid on top so when the scuttle vent rains in, the drips end up on the rubber mat which can be wiped off (OK sometimes it’s worse than that π )
…………….
I redid the carpet in my Light 15 myself. I made a front floor carpet- this was carpeted originally as opposed the French cars that had a mat, correct? I took the piece for the front bulkhead to a professional trim shop and he added vinyl to the areas where my feet would rest. It looks nice.
My car is not at going to be original, but the carpet set (complete) is cheaper than having the edging sewn on a homemade one. I redid my Renault 4L myself and just had the front section edged. But in the Traction I like the darker grey edging tape which will match my grey vinyl seats and door cards I am having done.
I just bought some black carpet for the boot, looked the kits but I think grey will mark too easily so black it is.
PS – I have the original rubber matt with the chevrons so I will clean that up and use that for the winter or probably all the time, but it is nice to be able to remove it showing the carpet underneath π
…………
But no fluffy carpet π
I like to feel the pile between my toes when I am driving π π
Found a front carpet from Pat2D for β¬60 so that is probably cheaper than buying plain carpet and having it edged. But then I will cover it anyway with the rubber mat π―
Going to the first bourse of the season this Saturday in Damazan, so will have a good look around there too.

French Traction saloons never had black carpet.
I know, but originality is not an issue for me, I wanted something ‘practical’
There’s always a debate re originality, but the replacement items one can buy are not really ‘original’ anyway, so for most owners it’s a case of doing what’s realistically reasonable in keeping another Traction on the road and from a mechanical/electrical point of view, suitable for use in todays traffic environment.

Totally agree – I want to enjoy the car but then I don’t want to Hot Rod it either – so keeping it inline with originality but have the comfort of a custom interior, 12 volts, power steering, heater etc. The carpets were just easier to buy as a set and match the colour scheme we are going for inside. I was just surprised to find that did not include the most important piece – the front floor π―
