Hi gruffalo here, new to the club, new to Tractions but not new to the double chevron.Have owned 3 2cv’s an Acadiane and an H van.I bought my car off e-bay over the Christmas period, it was the silver one on offer. It is a 1953 BL.What does BL stand for?The car was I am told in covered storage for 40 years prior to my buying it.It seems remarkably sound. The brakes are of course u/s.I would like to have the brake cylinders sleeved in stainless steel.Good idea or not? What about the master cylinder sleeve or replace? Anyone recomend a firm to carry this out and an idea of cost please?
Double chevron and suicide doors what could possibly go wrong?

I can recommend Powertrack, although the process is fairly expensive. However, they come back better than new , so worth it.

BL stands for Berline Legere, which translates to Light Sedan. How about some photos?

HI Bruce, thanks for your reply. Will take some pics and pop them on the forum.Have been out side today working on the car.As happy as a pig in poo! Will need a spare wheel ,with or without tyre.French or English pattern not fussy as long as it keeps the corner of the car of the ground.Mainly needs brakes sorting out plus a few issues with lights.Should there be an ignition light on the dash? Couldn’t see one today when I turned the key.

            regards Steve

Hi there – where abouts are you?

No ignition light on the dashboard, just have to use the ammeter to check on charge. I have just changed to 12 volts with an alternator so have just install a charge light.

I am also looking for a spare wheel – mine had deteriorated too much even though I had it sand blasted and painted, it showed up the missing metal. Although I have seen worse being sold on the Le Bon Coin.

              Welcome to the forum 😀

Fitting an alternator charge light wasn’t simple on mine, it needed a 14v relay to switch it off when it was charging, not idling otherwise it simply stayed on.

To get it to charge properly at low speeds and in traffic due to the Tractions low idling speed and 3,800 top speed revs, it required a 70mm diameter pulley for the alternator, then because of the small diameter pulley standard v belts weren’t flexible enough and lasted less than 3,000 kms before starting to crack I had to source a 17 mm Gates notched belt (B38 MN )

You can ‘split’ the supplied pulley on a lathe and put a spacer in to widen it so that the belt sits in lower giving you that smaller diameter and faster spin rate. I had a new one machined locally though.

Reading the above just proves that keeping my car to 6 volts was the right choice.

I had to rewire mine anyway so may as well take the opportunity to go 12 volts, plus I have put power steering in which was less hassle with 12 volts.

I have wired for 12volt so hoping I won’t have any snags with the alternator.

But Den, a 42 watt bulb for the charging light, at least it is bright enough to see 🙂
