They look like mine – are there different components for different countries then ?
Is yours a Slough or Paris built car?
The Slough cars were “51%” English components, which included:
– English Leather on Seats
– English wool headlining and carpets
– English Walnut trim
– Lucas (English) Wiring, Dynamo, Distributor, Regulator, lamps (Front and rear), Bulbs, Horn/Indicator/turn switch column
– English radiator Grille (with wire mesh and chevrons behind the mesh & Grille)
– English Door handles (interior and exterior)
– English Small Boot with hindges on each side and “flap” that drops down
– English Steering wheel
– English Jaeger and Lucas instruments
– English “style” bumpers and over-riders
– English Paint?
Absolutely anything that they could claim to be “English” so that they could get approval from the UK Government that it was a “British” vehicle and not have to levy import duty on the final price of the car when sold to “Joe Public”.
In addition from 1946, to the 1960’s, 4 out of 5 Slough cars were exported to the commonwealth (Aus, NZ, SA, India) to improve the “Balance of Payments” and bring in cash to a country in financial recovery from WW2.
