I have been pottering about for a while now and have only reached the dizzy speed of 85 km/h top speed with my foot to the floor.
I just adjusted the timing (by a lot) and it is running much better, I turned down the idling speed and also screwed out the mix screw so it sound lovely now and responds well. But still the same top speed.
So I got my helper (the wife) to put her foot to the floor (when we had stopped) and the accelerator mechanism is only operating half way. I can turn the carb by hand a quite a lot more which then operates the acceleration rod on the carb too.
So what do I need to do to adjust the accelerator mechanism, which way does it adjust to give more movement from top to the floor.
Thanks
Ian
(PS coming to the UK tomorrow….. not in the Traction though but in my Trafic)
If I move the swivel bolt up on the U bracket near the bAttery, will tbat provide the adjustment.
Trying to plan the job for when I get back home Friday.
Doubt moving the swivel bolt will help as the connector should be level, in line with the carb or your going to get wear on the spindle….
Adjustment is made at the bottom?
Anyway, 2 images to show what mine looks like with the throttle closed.
On both of mine the throttle return spring is near the bottom. Having it near the top seems to make more sense. Is there an adjustment to the rod length?
…………

Mine actually has 2 springs end to end so that it pulls the throttle right off when my foot comes off the accelerator to get maximum engine braking…..
Ian before adjusting anything, take off the air cleaner and take a look down the carb barrel as someone presses the accelerator just to check that the butterfly is not fully opening.
If it is, the problem is elsewhere, i.e. ignition timing or fuel supply.
So, there is not any adjustment then. Wonder why my pedal going from top to bottom will only move the carb half way.
Will give it another go tomorrow when back home as I think I am losing 30% of my top speed ๐ฎ
So after a lot of peering down into the engine bay and having the wife push the pedal hard while figuring out the carb I worked out the issue.
The pedal itself on the bar was not in the correct position (I though it had a flat spot to fix it in place, but I think they may have worn a little).
So I got my now “mechanic” wife, Julie, to hold the carb on full throttle. I released the bolt on the pedal and bought it down, not all the way, but with a little clearance and bolted it back up tight. So adjusting and fixing the pedal in the full throttle position and not like before in the idle position.
So out on the road…. wow! Last time I slowly got up to about 85 kph with a top speed on my my flat test road of about 4 km of 90 kph. Today, it rocketed up past 90 kph and at full throttle it reached and levelled at 120 kph. I had a couple of passes and 120 kph was the limit (maybe 122 kph but the dial may be a little fuzzy). W ill need to compare to a GPS but the relative speed has increased by 30% (just as I joked). The acceleration is much better up hills now as the accelerator pump is coming into play on the carb where before it didn’t.
So next job – fix all the rattles that seem to come about at 110 kph ๐
Oh and bleed the brakes for a final time, pretty hairy braking at that speed…. so from now on will be happy with 90 knowing it has more just in case. ๐ ๐

You now owe her a nice meal out with a bottle of wine at least for sorting your throttle out ๐
BTW the brakes never seem to live up to the cars performance IMHO however never tried a car with a servo fitted and keep thinking I should fit one, but went to France and back last year in the car so do I actually need one…….
This is the 2nd time that I have made a post to this forum only to find that the post did not “take”, I did look at the post after making it and it was visible. The reason for posting this here is that yesterday at around 11.30 am I posted to this topic the suggestion that you looked there and posted a jpg of the page out of the parts manual.
Has anyone else had posts they made not appear in a topic?
Hey Den, did you post or save draft, I have done that a few times.
No I posted it.

Yours don’t need ‘Admin Approval’ Den so should post OK and I can’t see anything in the awaiting approval list
So who moved the Accelerator problem post from the 1955 Traction 11B “Barn Find” Project?

I put a link from the project forum to this help forum so my project posts are all together.
Nothing moved.
