      Hi,
A strange situation occurred recently that I want to share because I now worry it might happen again or even to someone else. I was returning home in the Light 15 from the Newby Hall Show nr Ripon and I was on the A68 doing about 50mph. Now anyone who was at the 2010 Annual rally will remember this road because it’s a great drivers road with blind summits , dips and fairly straight. I use it regularly because it’s our way south to the A1. Well just coming down from a high point called Kiln Pit Hill when the front drivers door decided to just pop open, swing back breaking the door stay hitting the back door and the wing. Yes it surely could be described as a suicide door. This has now been repaired and new grommets fitted ,new door stay etc. but I can still hear it occasionally moving in the frame. The occasional metal click. The door striking catch holds the door firmly you cant push it open without using the handle. Just as it was before the popping happened. At the moment I use a bungi rubber to wrap around the steering column and door handle to protect it happening again. Some guys have said that cars flex when travelling up and down such steep curves but I’ve had the car 14 years and this is the first mishap like this. Any comforting thoughts would be appreciated please.

I would check how far the lock is going into the strike plate. I have heard of this on other old cars but suicide doors turn it into a very nasty game.
