My LIGHT 15 has developed a gearbox oil leak. It is leaking from casing bolts at front of gearbox ( casing at starting handle drive) would I have to drain gearbox to fit gasket, would there be an oil seal where spindle drive for starting handle comes out of gearbox. Would Chris have this gasket/oil seal if required at TOC spares.
Help for this info much appreciated.

Oil filler/level plug and speedo drive are both lower down so yes you would need to drop the oil to avoid making a mess on the floor. Simple enough to do though and replacement oil often comes with a filler tube so no problem refilling it. I have changed my gearbox oil before.

Never had the front of mine off so can’t say what is behind it.

That’s a simple job, pull off the two plates and replace the paper gasket. Behind them are the upper and lower gearbox shafts. But even after you replace the gasket (one gasket does both) it still may leak. There’s no other seal there.
