Is there a discount code for the show for being a club member.
Thank you
Ian
There will be, but it’s a bit early yet?
You probably need to wait until the add appears in Floating Power. There’s no reason to book this early as prices won’t change before the event (unlike some others)
Ian,
If you were to consider volunteering for “Stand Duty” entry is free, as is parking, on the days that you attend (provided that the organizer accepts your offer to volunteer).
As the name implies, “Stand Duty” is spending time on the stand, answering questions about the TA, “encouraging” new members to join the ToC, meeting other ToC members, handing out old copies of “Floating Power”, Smiling, telling stories about your car, cracking jokes, supplying unlimited beer to the webmaster, the list just goes on……
The NEC is adjacent to Birmingham International Airport (BHX).
Check out the flight costs on Skyscanner http://www.skyscanner.net/ and you may be able to fly in and fly out in a day.
failing that i can recommend the Briar Rose https://www.jdwetherspoon.com/hotels/england/west-midlands/the-briar-rose which is where you’ll find me.
It’s central Birmingham, next to New St Railway station (20 min from the NEC) and by the German Christmas Market that they hold in November.
Questions?
I may do – Time is limited when we come to the UK but I do not mind taking my turn.
I asked the question about tickets as I have already booked my flights one way to Heathrow. I intend to buy a car, drive up to the NEC and then after the show (and other visiting duties) drive back to the South of France.
But I could do one day…. if I am accepted of course π
do not process a suit though, my work clothes are Lycra, but I may have a Polo shirt and Chinos somewhere π
It could be worthwhile Ian as you could talk F2F to some of the committee, Chinos and a Club T should be fine to wear.
I did a couple of hours like that once.
Suit?
What am suit?
Stripey T-shirt, Beret, Black trousers and string of onions will do fine.
Actually there may be a sweatshirt that you have to purchase with the TOC Logo on it… Β£15 (well there was for one year….)
Rather than park at the event, suggest you park elsewhere and use public transport to get to the NEC.
I’m contacting the organizer on your behalf to get you on stand duty – which day is best for you Friday, Saturday or Sunday?
I will be there on the Friday but on parts searching duties, so saturday would be better. Can leave Julie to do the visiting parents duties then π
I came to the show 2 years ago and visited the stand…. all I request is NO MANNEQUINS …… I have a tendency to behead them. The TU still use them and I personally think that it scares away prospective visitors….. bit like scary clowns π
Mechanically there’s never been much in the way of parts for French cars Ian, trim materials, tools, cleaning, bulbs, small nuts and bolts (no M7 or M9 though) etc. so don’t expect to fill your car with goodies.
The ‘restoration’ area though is good at showing some of the old school techniques which can be used on restoration, aka lead loading etc. etc.
How about an 84 Mini 1275 and a ’69 MKII 998 π
Plus as I will be driving back, all the other stuff that is more available in the land of the free…. whoops mixing it up with the US now π
(just filled up the vehicles in readiness for the French to shut down the country…. see they don’t need a referendum, they just burn tires….)
Mini parts should not be a problem, burning tyres though is frowned upon π

Good luck with getting the committee to talk to you. When I visited the stand in the morning I had someone speak to me but when we visited in the afternoon the little group sitting at the table could not have been more distant had they tried. Perhaps I should come too Ian and then two of the Traction Forum Moaners would be there.
In France – one person is a moaner…… Two people are a revolution π

I have a comment but will say nothing as some do not have a sense of humour.

Would love to meet you there. That would make it three: ‘people’s revolution’? Or worse, ‘anarchy’?
The way it is going we may well meet up and only be welcome on the Citroen Car Club stand.
