      Good Day all,
My L15 from South Africa has lost its Identification Plate. There is a number stamped on the RH jamboneau which, in ignorance, I thought was a chassis number. The bulkhead plate is missing.

To complicate it a bit further, the previous owner pinched the 11D engine and substituted a Perfo engine. I do have the previous engine number. In the near future, I am going to have to approach the DVLA to get it registered. I was wondering if anybody in the club has any production records for Slough tractions that could link either the number stamped on the chassis or the original engine number to an actual chassis number.

Any advice on this or on how best to deal with the DVLA would be much appreciated.

      Thanks.

        Hi Roger
With any luck the number on the jamboneau will be the vin. Slough numbers from 1952 on Light 15s will be 9520001-9521244; 953001-9531598; 9531599-9532569; 9550001-9550717. These are Lt15 Rhd models.

I have a chassis plate from a South African Light 15 #137060 ( I don’t know the year but I think 1954) that was cut apart before all of its parts were exported to Canada and I got them as part of the Light 15 I acquired in 2005. It’s yours if you want it.

            137060 was a 1951 Lt15 Rhd car.

OK, thanks. The car was cut up in the 1970s. I have it if anyone needs it.

                Thanks both of you.

The number on the jamboneau is BPVSM 3283 so bears no relationship to a chassis number but thanks anyway.

L Lewis, thanks very much. There is some uncertainty in my papers as to whether my car is 1955 or 1954 but I guess that really does not matter. If the chassis plate says 1954 then it becomes 1954.

I would be grateful if you could hang onto it for me while I see if I can trace the actual numbers. If I can’t, a genuine plate which was never registered with the DVLA must be better than pulling a number out of the hat.

Sorry for the delay. Our internet went down on Friday night and has just come back.

                Regards

Back again. Sorry, I read the posts in the wrong order and did not digest correctly.

Thanks Patrick for identifying it as 1951. I don’t think my big boot would manage to pass as 1951 so I will leave the plate for someone more appropriate.

                  Thanks anyway,
                  Roger

How strict are they over there? Would anyone doing an MOT know the sequence of chassis numbers? I wonder about that, but you could ask John Gillard, he might have a plate you can use.

The registration process here (DVLA form V765) asks that you get a supporting statement from a recognised owners club to vouch for the vehicle. Interesting point as to what you do without a VIN number. As you suggest, John G might be able to help. I would also ask the Club Secretary if the number can be traced via the body number – Robin Dyke did quite a bit of research on this.

                        Thanks Patrick,
I will try to contact Robin Dyke via the secretary. It is a bit of a problem on the forum that names are anonymous.
I guess, over time, you build up a cross reference directory.

I am hoping someone can link either the body number or the original engine number to a specific vehicle.

                          Hi Roger,
                          Did you connect with Robin?

                          Chris

                            Hi Chris,
Yes thank you. Robin phoned me and we are now in email contact. I have sent him all the information that I have, so we’ll see if Robin can fill in some of the gaps.
                            Regards
