22mm Davy is what I use on mine though I have new ‘magnetic’ drain plugs (from TOC spares) fitted to both the engine sump and gearbox. IIRC the original plugs had been abused over the years and weren’t such a good fit for the spanner.
As for tightening, I always use a new copper washer and tighten until it ‘stops’ 🙂
