Like Bernie says, sounds like a mechanical fuel pump issue.
Don’t know if this will help, I added an asbestos type mat to the underside of the heat shield, I think there is something normally fitted there but mine was missing, a thick plastic spacer between carb and manifold, an electric fuel pump and inline filter fitted onto the jambonneau and done away with the mechanical pump completely , also replaced fuel lines engine end with rubber hoses. This all helps with keeping the heat out of the fuel.
I often run my engine for extended periods at a high RPM (2000 rpm) stationary with bonnets closed and the theory being it dispels any moisture that may build up in the engine and surrounding areas through lack of use and not had a hot starting issue.
