Your wife may be right in general but, in this instance, it does look as if less of the dial is visible in picture 2.

If  that really is an issue for you, could you open it up and remove the offending ring?  …. or contact the supplier and have a moan.  If they can’t supply “as advertised” they may be minded to offer a discount.  Good luck.

Meanwhile, I shall  coninue driving in blissful ignorance of water temperature and oil pressure ‘cos I reckon the trouble with fitting gauges is they give you more to worry about.
