You may well be right but I have taken the plunge so on I plod. It gets more complicated as I go. The water temp bulb has a 5/8UNF thread so had to buy a 5/8 tap and the correct drill bit a 37/64. The oil is the same except using 1/8NPT. Anyway I digress I too thought of taking out the magnolia ring, hopefully without damaging  the chrome bezel, that does not look particularly easy. Thenb there is another priblem I think the madnolia ring is actually holding the fascia in place . As you can see from the attached pic there is a sort of leg going between the two of them. There are 3 of this legs around the dial. I am assuming if I got to remove the magnolia ring the fascia could then move about. I think one can just about make out what I am on about, the leg is highlighted by the red arrow.

And as I have got your attention can you tell me the size of the radiator hoses are they 40mm?
