That “mystery light” is not original but do check to see if it’s connected to anything. You may want to wire it to the high beam circuit so you have an indicator. To remove the knob from the spark advance, you need to remove it from the dashboard and you will see how it comes apart. Installing a push button for the starter is fairly common, I have that on one of mine. I assume that the push button is connected to a relay?
