Thanks Bernie . Thanks for the information.   I think the mixture is too rich , plugs are sooty, the previous owner had a new fuel pump fitted so this may have an effect , The valve shut off section on the float has a slight wear where it contacts the valve. The valve is closed when the float is horizontal in the chamber ,  I’ve no Idea if the correct combination of jets are fitted . The washer on the valve is 1.35 mm thick , I will fit a thinner washer 1 mm or 0.8 mm to compensate for the wear on the float cam and see if this reduces the sooty plugs. If this doesn’t work try adjusting the mixture once I’ve found out how to do this .
