So after a lot of peering down into the engine bay and having the wife push the pedal hard while figuring out the carb I worked out the issue.

The pedal itself on the bar was not in the correct position (I though it had a flat spot to fix it in place, but I think they may have worn a little).

So I got my now “mechanic” wife, Julie, to hold the carb on full throttle. I released the bolt on the pedal and bought it down, not all the way, but with a little clearance and bolted it back up tight. So adjusting and fixing the pedal in the full throttle position and not like before in the idle position.

So out on the road…. wow! Last time I slowly got up to about 85 kph with a top speed on my my flat test road of about 4 km of 90 kph. Today, it rocketed up past 90 kph and at full throttle it reached and levelled at 120 kph. I had a couple of passes and 120 kph was the limit (maybe 122 kph but the dial may be a little fuzzy). W ill need to compare to a GPS but the relative speed has increased by 30% (just as I joked). The acceleration is much better up hills now as the accelerator pump is coming into play on the carb where before it didn’t.

So next job – fix all the rattles that seem to come about at 110 kph 🙂

Oh and bleed the brakes for a final time, pretty hairy braking at that speed…. so from now on will be happy with 90 knowing it has more just in case. 😀 😀
