My uncle (long dead) used to use glycerine on the white rubber bumpers of his (now my) Triumph Herald. It seemed to work – they haven’t turned to dust like most. I keep meaning to try it on the window rubbers of my New Yorker which was a desert car and sounds like it has the same problem as yours. Worth a try.
