Battery electrolyte filler cap

HEEEEEELP!

I have lost one of the three threaded plastic breather caps from my Traction battery….

Does anybody have a dead battery with a suitable cap they are prepared to part with, please?

The thread is 26mm dia. x 2.5mm pitch.

I have tried several local battery suppliers but they only have “modern” batteries in their scrap piles.  New replacements caps are available online ….. but only from the States and they incur silly carriage costs (a new battery would be cheaper).

Unfortunately I took several dead old tractor batteries to the scrappy a couple of weeks ago Bernie. If you don’t have a lorry or agricultural scrap yard near you I could look in at our local scrappy next week. I don’t think the 12v heavy duty batteries have such shallow caps as the one in your photo but perhaps you could use a full set for the look.

Thanks anyway.  Of course I shall be happy to replace all 3 caps to make them match but, in honesty, I am more concerned to keep the cell covered and breathing than I am about the caps all looking the same.  At the moment I have a piece of duct tape covering it with just a small pin-prick hole for gas relief so, even odd caps would be an improvement.

I have a dead battery in the garage. Caps are a different style but same size. I can get the 3 in the post to you later this week.

It looks as if John has solved your cap problem Bernie, but I found these caps at the scrap yard if you still need them. The size seems fairly universal so it was a good heads up to have some spare for old batteries such as we use. I also have some in yellow good perhaps pour encourager les yeux.
