Does anyone have a particular brake fluid that they would recommend? I need to bleed the brakes on my Slough built Light 15 and as I don’t know when the brake fluid was last changed, or indeed what fluid was used, I’m thinking that it might be wise to drain and refill.

If you don’t know what’s in then yes it’s better to drain and refill as you don’t want to mix Dot 5 Silicone with other fluids have a read of this: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/pdfs/tech-articles/Brake-Fluid-Explained.pdf

It probably has Dot 4 in it, my car has.

Comma 5.1 synthetic is a non silicone oil. http://www.commaoil.com/productsguide/view/6/199.
They quote on their website “Non-Silicone based can be mixed safely with DOT 3 & DOT 4 Fluids.”
I have used this oil in my Light 15 and at the moment it appears to function OK

I first started using the fluid when I restored a concours tractor where the fluid reservoir was in a very awkward position and it was likely some spillage or drips on the paintwork were likely to happen.
Unfortunately some spillage did occur but the fluid had no detrimental effect on the paintwork, since then I have continued to use this fluid.
