Hi All,
I have a friend in the CTAB (Brittany Traction owner’s club) who is restoring a 1948 Slough built RHD Light 15.
He needs 5 no. bulb holders (not the bulbs) to fit in the Jaeger dash instruments.
I have two spares from various salvaged cars I had and have appended a dropbox link below.
Can anyone help, please?
I have checked the internet to no avail; asked Chris T; but no luck so far.
Note: French cars have a completely different set of instruments, so will be of no help, before anyone suggests that.
Thanks,
Martin NICHOLSON

Hi Martin,
I got five of the Jaegar dash instruement bulb holders from Andy Burnett a few weeks ago. He says if you would like to contact him sheilandyb@gmail.com he will see if he has any more. Please note that he only has the ‘thimbles’ into which the little 2.2watt bulbs screw not the ‘button’ contacts for the end of the bulbs with the feed wire. These are easy enough to make yourself.
Good Luck
Bob Cross
Hi Bob,
Thank you so much for your response regarding the Slough bulb holders. As far as I am aware it is just the thimbles that are required, so I will contact Andy direct, probably tomorrow, to see if he can help!
Thanks again and à bientôt,
Martin NICHOLSON
Hi Bob & everyone,
Following your advice, Bob, I did contact Andy, but after a big search, unfortunately he does not have any more “thimbles” in stock.
So, my search is still on!! If anyone can think of a possible source for the parts, please contact me via this posting or on email vicmarnic@gmail.com.
Thanks again,
Martin N
Good Day Martin,
I’m not quite clear what you are looking for. Is it the part shown in your pictures or the bulb holder that fits into that?

Hi Roger,
Many thanks for checking this out and your suggestions. Unfortunately the bulb holder you suggested, won’t fit.
The units I am after are actually the bulb holders. You will see in the photos that the inside of the fitting is threaded and the bulb screws directly into it.
I have checked the fittings on other vehicles of that era that used Jaeger instruments, but it looks like only Tractions produced in Slough, used this particular method of instrument illumination!
Thanks very much for trying, much appreciated!
A bientôt,
Martin N
Hi Martin,
I rather got the bit between my teeth and tried some old contacts.
I sent the pics to Vintage Restorations, asking if he had any.

I have this reply.
Probably yes, how many do you need?
John
Do you want me to continue discussion with John or do you want to take over.
I am travelling to France, arriving in Saint Malo on Saturday 18th April and staying in Brittany for a few day’s sightseeing before heading South West.
I could bring them if he has some.
Roger
John
Hi Roger,
That was all very kind of you!
I thought I had checked all MG parts, but obviously I must have missed models. Having said that, it is obviously important to confirm that the MG parts are exactly the same shape and size as shown in my pics.
5 Number are required, but before I order, assuming the right bits are available, I would need to know a price for my friend, who incidentally, lives in Rennes. I note that John doesn’t post to the EU anymore, so delivery would need to be sorted out. Your kind offer may work, but we don’t have a lot of time before your departure to France.
The price would need to include delivery to you, too!
It’s probably best if you initially continue with John, rather than get me involved at this stage. That’s if you are happy to do so?
As soon as I have the price, I’ll contact my friend.
Thanks again,
Martin.
My grateful thanks to both Bob and Roger for their help. Also Andy Burnett, who searched in vain; at least for the five, that were required!
Vintage Restorations, were indeed able to help in the end and can also supply the springs that retain the bulb holders in place.
Check out https://www.mg-cars.org.uk/vr/ if you need these bits.
I thought that I had checked old MG parts lists, just in case, so there must be a model, I’d missed, that had a similar setup to a Slough Traction!!
