I have a plastic cam on the starter motor, where it goes on to the spring. The cam has lasted several months, and has eventually broken (again). Does anyone have a metal cam, or more to the point, a work around?

Had the same problem with fibre cams failing – they need to be an insulating material as it contacts the live feed to the starter.

As a temporary measure I used a decent sized wire tie and added an extra wire tie “head” to give more lift clamped tight to the flat on the spindle, there is no spring return so you have to rely on the push of the starter cable to disconnect.

        Still working several years later.
