What compression figure should I be looking for on a 1951/2 model?

      Thanks

        Hi David

I have just rebuilt the engine on my 1949 Light 15 and I checked the compressions after 500 miles. They were all around 180psi which I thought was a bit high so I checked with another gauge and they came out at around 160psi! The actual figure is not as important as having all the cylinders being within a few percent of each other.

        Cheers Richard

          Hi

Yes agree about all 4 cyl being similar providing all look reasonable to start with so I have noted your figure.

Now can I ask another few questions this time regarding tyres.

What tread depth does a new tyre have?

Roughly with sensible normal driving how many miles should one get before needing replacing?

I assume the tyres are date marked is it standard marking?

Would be very grateful for any input on these.

          Regards

            Hi David

I bought some tyres from the club shop a couple of years ago, they are dated 2018 and still have 6mm of tread but not a lot of use recently. Michelins of course and the tyres they replaced still had plenty of tread but dated from the 1980s, I think Michelins use a hard rubber compound. As far as I know only Michelin and Blockley make metric tyres to fit Citroen rims.

            Cheers Richard

Many thanks. Generally I think 10 years is old enough for tyres to be changed so 1980s had possibly seen their best.

Anyway am off to look at the car next week so we will see.

              Regards
