      Dear Traction’ists,

I am, as you may have gathered from recent posts, working my way through a series of small issues to do with my recently purchased Light 15, with your significant help.

Next up “headlamp rims”. On my car there is a locating tongue at the top[ and two small pips on the shell, over which the rim clips. At the bottom of the rim is a hole? I feel sure there should be some sort of securing device at this point, although to date neither rim has shown any inclination to detach itself from the lamp shell. Is anyone able to post a photo, description, source of the correct fastening please?

      In anticipation, thank you!

        Hi Jack

I have the same problem and to make sure I do not lose  the headlight I have threaded a cable tie through the holes. The lights are also fitted to MG TCs so I must check their set up. Like the MGs I assume the lights were originally 8″ but these rims step the light units down to 7″.

        Cheers Richard

          Hi Richard,

I think 8″, however mine have the original size rims, so no step down.

          Regards Jack

            Hi Jack

The MGs with 8″ headlights show a retaining wire and clip. The wire looks like a curly M and I guess the clip is external, I found the wire inside one of my headlights, thought it was a poor attempt at a rim clip and threw it away! MG TA,TB and TC part no. 154-500.

            Cheers Richard

Hi Richard, I stole this image from an MG suppliers site, I hope they do not mind. Is this what you had in mind?

I can imagine this working and since the ‘W’ spring is easily dislodged, why it may have gone missing along with the rim clip.

I have just fitted a pair of LED dipping BPF bulbs, the output is amazing, I hope they will focus and give a good beam. I will have to have a night run, move the lamp bodies around to get them in place and then find a way to get a 7/16″ BSW spanner into the pedestal slot, both headlamp shells are loose?

              Regards Jack

An update on the rim fixing. I ordered the parts from Tim Hodgekiss http://www.vintagemotorspares.com/ items 527 and 528, they are available elsewhere but mostly from India with a 4 to 6 week wait.

The fit and are exactly correct for the headlamp rim, thanks for the pointer Richard. I feel confident I shall not loose a headlamp rim on the way to Sarratt Village Boxing Day car meet now

                Regards Jack
