I’ve been reading the posts about the jerky drive whilst on overrun and so checked and consequently adjusted the timing on my car and…….what a difference ! Now completely smooth on overrun. I also measured the backlash at the wheel/tyre out of interest and found similar dimensions to those stated. And yes, I was thinking it was a gearbox/diff problem. Now all is well.

Yes, we are all grateful to Bernie for his response to my original post. Without his advice I would have be in a real quandary as how to proceed, and my supposed options would have all been wrong!! My problem solved – your problem solved -and no doubt others.
