Hi I’m in the middle of getting my engine rebuilt and my rebuilder called me in to show me how much movement there is in the bearing caps he said if he puts them back in like that it will wear quickly, he said this is a big job to fix properly by welding the sides of the caps to build them up and machine them to fit tight then tunnel bore. Is there any other fix for this?5EB56AF4-2104-468E-9423-B3FDDFD791B2

        Mark,

Yoiks!  Initially, the caps and block would have been line bored together and, in effect are therefore not interchangeable between engines.  Other than sourcing another block (complete with it’s caps) I think the suggested solution is probably the only safe way forward.

Looks like the caps may not be original to this block, as he said he can fix it an I want to do it right. It’s only money I guess 🙁
