My Traction has developed a problem with the rocker shaft. When I bought it, the pushrods were of various lengths, and there was little (or no) oil on the third rocker. I replaced the pushrods, cleaned out the shaft, and reinstated the whole in accordance with 103.16.

I didn’t do (b),replacing the expanding washers, should I have done? I thought that, as a little oil was on the rockers, rather than none, I would leave it, but a friend came by and said that there was really no oil on the head and using it was fraught. The oil way from the head  at the rear of the engine is poor, and it’s an 11d head on an ID block.

Should I look at the oil pump, or is there something I’ve missed?

Thank you, but I’ve solved the difficulty.

Hi Tim.   How did you solve the low-flow issue?

            Hello Paul,

Well, I ignored the manual,(given that it’s an 11d head and an ID block), and thought about it! The rocker shaft has two holes in the back, 180 deg apart. If the bottom hole is exactly opposite the oilway from the engine in the post at the back, and the shaft has all the output holes clear- mine didn’t- oil flows!

I put the whole lot back, apart from the rear post and washer, and turned the shaft so it lined up with the engine- ie the hole was was vertical.

Oh, and then I put the rear post on.
