I have received an email from a member in France, who has bought a stainless steel exhaust from the Club; his letter reads:

      Bonjour Steve,

      Your help/guidance would be appreciated.

I have just purchased from Chris Treagust, a complete stainless exhaust system from the club, for my 1952, 11BL Paris LHD Traction.

Chris advised me that because the stainless exhaust box is heavier than the mild steel box, the club had designed an additional bracket to support the extra weight.

The bracket, looks similar to an oversized jubilee clip, with an additional flange drilled with a number of holes. the bracket slides over the silencer box and is then secured by tightening it in the same manner as a jubilee clip.

What I don’t know, and Chris also did not know how the clip is secured to the frame of the car, and he suggested that I might contact you for advice.

I guess I want to know if there are holes on the frame to accept the bracket, or do holes have to be drilled and if so where.

Can you please assist, or can you kindly direct me to a member that has fitted a club stainless system.

Thank you for your kind assistance.

      Allan DOLLIE.

My custom stainless exhaust didn’t need a bracket on the silencer itself, it just used the original exhaust mounting points and was  absolutely fine

Like David,  I also mounted my stainless system on the Légère using only the original fixings and never experienced a problem in over 15 years.  The car was sold several years ago but I bet I’ve still got the unused bracket somewhere!

Like wise, fitted a club stainless exhaust to my Roadster, still have the surplus bracket on the shelf! 25,000 miles on, still no problems. My guess would be the two rubber drops on each support, tail pipe and through pipe are essential and should be in good order.
