I have just rejoined the TOC and Traction ownership. The car is a 1938 “Legere’, originally a Paris built ‘Popular’ so right hand drive but with French trim, etc. It has been restored some years ago……  The engine is an 11D and it sadly has a rather dreadful noise which seems to be coming from the oil pump or oil pump drive.  I seem to remember that it is impossible to remove the alloy sump from an 11D engine with the engine still in the chassis… am I correct?

        Mike,

The handbrake cross-member is the major obstacle.  However, refitting a sump with the engine in-situ is something I would personally neither try nor recommend.  The two endcap seals are so difficult to fit correctly when working “upside-down” and will almost certainly leak as a result.

        B…….
