It is like tumbleweed city on here at the moment – was hoping for torrents of advice now I am into the engine.
So I printed of a degree wheel and made a pointer. I can see the No1 piston so I measured the angle clockwise and then anticlockwise and averaged them, cut it in half and supposedly that is TDC. Wasn’t convinced so in the end I took off the timing chain cover and checked the two little dots on the crank and camshaft gears. They were lined up perfectly.
So I then checked the orientation of the distributor (or top of oil pump) and this was 180 degrees the wrong way. So I did bugger it up yesterday when I was doing this upside down.
