The previous owner of my car had the engine rebuilt by a classic car specialist in the north east of Scotland, unfortunately he was incompetent and fitted the wet liners with a smear of silicon sealant rather than the correct figure of eight gaskets. This means the wet liners did not sit proud of the top face of the block and were not fully clamped in place. The engine remained sealed for several years but recently the sealant gave up and water got into the sump and on a run recently the oil pump started pumping water instead of oil and the big end and main bearings were damaged. I have rebuilt several TR engines which also have wet liners which need to protrude 4 thou of an inch above the block face, which does not sound much but it is vital.
It is a Perfo engine with white metal bearings so it is going to be expensive to repair and any advice would be welcome. I am told I can substitute later con rods with shell bearings so if anyone has a set lying around in their garage I would be grateful. I have a deadline of the National Rally in the Lake District.
Cheers
Richard
