      I have recently bought a Light 15 and the brake pipes are a puzzle.  All the rigid brake pipes are encased in a tight metal coil, I have never seen this before. Are they original or correct Citroen replacements and how do you see if they are corroded? If they are original on a 1949 car that would be amazing.

        Hi Richard

        I had the same on my 1952 Light 15 (project car) which had been in storage for over 20 years.

          Richard,

          Congratulations on your acquisition. – and yup, those “coils” were an original fitting!

          It is basically a spring sleeve which, in theory could be displaced sideways or possibly removed for inspection.  They will originally have been placed on the pipes before the connections were fitted to the ends but they can often be removed by “unwinding” them, like removing a key from a key-ring.  However, if they are totally original from new then they are very likely to be corroded to the pipe and will probably disintegrated when/if they are disturbed enough to remove them.

            Hi Bernie

            Thank you for sorting out that puzzle. The pipes are in reasonable condition and look original, the wire coils are very tight and do not look like they have been disturbed. I will attempt to keep them that way.
