I am in the process of painting my engine (1948 Slough built Light 15) in the usual green but want to know what other items were also painted the same colour. Gear linkage, fan etc?

        Hi Grahame

Yes to the fan. At least mine has always been green – not always the same shade though looking back through the layers of paint.

The starter motor and dynamo seem always to have been green too. As does the eiffel tower and the arms mounted on it. But my gear rods seems to have always been black.

It’s always seemed to me that the bell housing of the gearbox is the same green but the gearbox itself is usually black. I understand that it was green at the factory but that would look odd on a red car.

I’m surprised that the electrics were green. Lucas would have supplied black, I would think. Certainly no signs of anything other than black on my 1955 parts.

My electrics were French – so that may make a difference

As it stands at the momental Lucas items will be black which are as I originally acquired the car. The engine and gearbox and attachments will be green (RAL 6020). If I have got it wrong it will be corrected in the futureIMG_0153
