        Big boot or small boot?

          Hi Bernie ,it is a big boot , just looking to see how the rubber seal is fitted , mine is currently missing ,i have the top strip and a new seal and clips ,would jus like to see how it is fitted properly , thanks Andy.

            Top strip is fixed to shell with small bracket screwed at each end.

            Boot “surround” only fits to the return on the sides and bottom of the lid with the bottom corners chamferred and the top edges blended and the  clips evenly spaced

            Mine is small boot so can’t help with pictures but I am sure somebody else will now do so.

              Although this arrangement offers a relatively weatherproof seal, the moment you open the boot the top seal is lost and any water on the top of the boot lid is spectacularly dumped through the gap onto your contents.

              Rule 1 – always wipe excess water off before opening the boot

              Rule 2 – place a waterproof sheet over the boot contents to direct water into the rear well from where it will drain.

                Thanks Bernie , i am having to take the boot off as the hinges ar terrible and i have new ones , i have new top seal and surround seal and clips . also got new lock for boot . hopefully i can get it water tight !!! thanks again for your time , cheers Andy .

                  It seems to me that originally the water would drip into the flange at the top of the boot and drain away on either side. It’s sure not the best design, is it? I wonder if a wider trough attached to the upper flange would be an improvement, something made of plastic, maybe? When the warm weather returns I may come up with something like that.
