Hi,
To all Slough car owners
Has anyone converted the old Lucas 414 pre-focus headlights to fit a halogen or LED lamp ?
Steve
I use Cibie headlights bought from Eurocarparts and made by Valeo with halogen bulbs on my Light 15 and they are very good. They are used for the complete TR range and sold by Eurocarparts for the TR7 and they are often discounted.
Cheers
Richard
Thank you Richard, I will forward you message on.
Hi Steve,
These are a good option https://www.classiccarleds.co.uk/collections/headlight-led-bulbs/lucas
There are also halogen bulbs available, cheaper but use a lot more power.
Cheers Philippe
Thank you Phil, I have forwarded on you reply

Steve
I don’t drive my L15 much after dark but, when I do, the lights are somewhat inadequate by today’s standards, even with the uprated 40/50W bulbs that I have fitted.
I have thought about LEDs but that is as far as I got. following on from the article on lighting in the November/December FP, I looked again.
The Lucas 414 replacement from Better Car Lighting retails at £99.99 per lamp.
Also available, as mentioned by Philippe above are the units from Classic Car LEDs which are listed at £28.00 each.
What experience have members got of these or other possible replacements?

Roger,
Have a look at this web site: http://www.classiccarleds.co.uk/collections/headlight-reflectors
Thanks for the link.
I was hoping for a direct replacement for the 414 bulb, but can’t see any on that site. It appears that they have LED replacements for the H4 lamps but for the 414 it would be necessary to replace the reflector/lens units.
There seems to be a lot of on-line ads for LED replacements for motorbike 414 bulbs which, as far as I know, are the same. Most of the ads are USA but I have found this one :
I have emailed to ascertain if they are left/right or straight dimming.
I will feed back, but would still appreciate members experience with LED headlamps, as I understand that some have had rather questionable lighting distribution patterns.
Assuming that there are still members out there who read the forum.

Has anyone found and tried LED replacements for the 414?
Further to my post, I have found this link on eBay – to the Classiccarleds.
I guess I missed it on their site.

I replaced the Lucas bulbs in my 1953, built Dc 1952, light 15 with LED bulbs from Classic Auto Bulbs.
Classic White premium 12 & 24 V LD Headlamp- BPF DC P36D Base.
I can now run at night without fear of losing power. Much improved lighting.
