For those like me who have no friends, I can confirm from personal experience it is possible to remove a bonnet single handed – and that also includes a 6-cylinder.

<span style=”font-size: 20px;”>Disconnect the bonnet stays at the rear of each bonnet leaf….. but first take a photo to facilitate correct spring orientation when refitting.</span>

<span style=”font-size: 20px;”>Remove the two screws and plates attaching the hinge to the bulkhead and radiator.</span>

<span style=”font-size: 20px;”>Place a cloth on top of one half of the bonnet and ensure the catches on that half are located to stop it moving accidentally.</span>

<span style=”font-size: 20px;”>Open the other bonnet half and fold it completely over to rest on the cloth on the fixed half.</span>

<span style=”font-size: 20px;”>Release the bonnet catches on the lower half.</span>

<span style=”font-size: 20px;”>Grip the bonnet assembly by the rear catch of the lower half and the hinge at the front and lift it clear of the car taking care to avoid the headlamp.</span>

<span style=”font-size: 20px;”>I normally place the bonnet on the lawn unless it is going to be off for some time.  </span>

<span style=”font-size: 20px;”>Replacement is the reverse of the above but first place cloths over the bulkhead and across the top of the rad area to prevent damage as the bonnet is fitted.</span>

<span style=”font-size: 20px;”>Put the folded bonnet roughly in postion and then open it up to get correct alignment.</span>

<span style=”font-size: 20px;”>Once it is correctly positioned, clip the four bonnet catches to hold it securely whilst replacing the front and rear hinge fixings.</span>

<span style=”font-size: 20px;”>Finally, replace the two bonnet stay pins and springs.</span>

<span style=”font-size: 20px;”>Even more finally, have a cup of tea.</span>
