      I am asked by a guy in Western Canada that he took his 48 BL in for an inspection and after it was done, the car is now stuck in second gear. I’m thinking it might be the shift linkage in the dashboard. I advised him to disconnect the shift rods from the levers on top of the gearbox and see if the shift handle and linkages all move correctly. I kind of doubt that the innards of the box would be at fault but I’m not ruling that out. Any ideas?

        Sounds right to me. I hope that’s all it is. If you are going to get stuck in one gear, second is the gear to choose. I got stuck in third when leaving work. The clutch took a bit of a pounding when launching the car into roundabouts.

          As it turned out, the gearbox was rebuilt by someone in British Columbia and the guy never put any oil into it. the synchro hub was seized on the shaft. Glad that wasn’t mine!
